The new Battle Pass Skins for Fortnite Chapter 4 Season 3 has left players unimpressed.

The new season of Fortnite has garnered mixed reactions from players recently. Some fans are happy that changes have arrived to Fortnite island, but others seem disappointed that it came at the cost of MEGA City’s destruction in favor of another primal themed season.

It seems that many held hope that the upcoming skins would be a good incentive for this season—but it doesn’t look like the skins are doing much to entice players.

New Fortnite Skins leave players unimpressed

A teaser image of four new skins was dropped and players seem underwhelmed by the lack of variety and the  loose aesthetic connection to the overall theme of Chapter 4 Season 3. In fact, some players think that Epic Games may be lacking inspiration.

In a Reddit Post, user u/datlj left a comment in reference to the new Rian skin, “Please stop with the unnecessary ‘hardcore’ emo chick skins. It’s overdone. No creativity.”

Here are the skins:

  • The Era skin, sports more of MEGA City look. She wears a black and gold bamboo hat with a half-cape and dual wields glowing blue daggers.
  • The Trace skin is perhaps a remnant of the previous futuristic Japanese-style aesthetic as well. He wears a dark green coat with a sci-fi-esque shoulder bag. The main feature of the skin is his neon blue bo staff, the color of which seems to bleed into his tattooed arms.
  • The Rian skin wardrobe features a dark green hunter’s cap with shades on top and a black jacket with torn sleeves over a tropical looking tank top. The Rian skin is also complete with spikes, chains, and piercings as accessories.
  • The sword-wielding Lorenzo skin has more of a swashbuckling appearance to him, wearing a simple, tan button-down shirt and green pants with plenty of nautical and map-themed tattoos present.
    • Rian and Lorenzo seem more fitting for a jungle exploration than their more cyberpunk-esque counterparts.

It’s true that Fortnite has favored skins with an emo / grunge aesthetic in the past, but players seem to want more from their skins now. It feels like the players are calling out what they think is plain. Reddit user u/tenebreate02 said, “Hm to be honest none of these Skins catches me really. All look so basic, like first few Battle Pass Stages Skins.”

Some players are holding out hope that although underwhelming, the skins may come with style edits. One new skin announced, Trace, holds a neon blue and black bo staff in his picture. Players believe there is great potential for customization in this. Reddit user u/NickTDesigns commented, “Hopefully there’s a red edit style so you can use it with Darth Maul.”

Fortnite players have made the collection of skins a key pillar in their community whether they be anime characters or gingerbread men, but the new skins teased does not seem to spark any drive to seek out them.
