Fortnite was created by Epic Games all the way back in 2017. Since then, the battle royale game has exploded in popularity and hit many platforms. You can enjoy the game on PlayStation, Xbox, Android, iPhone, and even PC. If you want to play Fortnite, there isn’t much of a limit on where you can play it.
Those who choose to play the game on PC can download the FortniteLauncher or the Epic Games Launcher to quickly get into the fray. Where does that leave those who want to enjoy the game via Steam? Is Fortnite on Steam?
Is Fortnite available on Steam for purchase?
In short, no. You cannot download Fortnite via Steam. That being said, there are ways to download and play the game on a Steam Deck if you have it. While this isn’t the same as getting the game on your PC, it still allows you to get in on the action.
Why isn’t Fortnite on Steam?
Tim Sweeney, Founder and CEO of Epic Games, stated that Epic Games would not allow players to download the game through Steam. This is because Sweeney and the Epic Games team believe that using Steam’s platform would allow players to start cheating. This was made clear in a tweet that was made in 2022.
Even today, Fortnite is unavailable on Steam and will probably never be. Currently, fans can enjoy the game on a variety of platforms including:

Is it possible to play Fortnite on Steam?
The only way to play Fortnite via Steam is to download the game to your Steam Deck. Since Fortnite will most likely never be a Steam game, you will need to download it via the Epic Games Store on your Steam Deck by accessing Desktop mode through the menu.
From there, there are a variety of ways to download the Epic Games Launcher. Make sure to add Fortnite to your list of non-Steam games through your program files. Be sure to also add a shortcut to your Steam folder. It only takes a few button clicks to download.
Since Fortnite is a non-Steam game, it won’t run as smoothly on the system as it would on a normal PC. Because of this, we do not recommend that you download the game to your Steam Deck.
