How to slide in Fortnite
Slide awaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. How to pull off the new gameplay move in Chapter 3 Season 1
The staple of scooting around in Apex Legends now arrives in Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1. Sliding is a new gameplay mechanic that has been added to Epic Games’ Battle Royale alongside a host of other new bits and bobs but as it is set to fundamentally change the game, at least in the short term as people get to grips with it it’s worth practicing how to time your slides to perfection as soon as possible, so first, let’s find out how to pull off the move.
How to slide in Fortnite on the PC
The method is the same no matter what version you are playing, but obviously, the controller you are using is going to affect what you need to press to activate the perfect slide.
Whatever you are playing on you need to hit the Crouch button while running and you will skid away until your heart’;s content. On the PC, the default mapping for this is the left CTRL button. Simply tap this while running and off you go. Tikming the perfect slide though is something else. More on that later.
How to slide in Fortnite on the Xbox
Much as above the method of sliding remains the same. You have to hit your Crouch button while running in order to pull off a slide. On the Xbox, the default mapping for this is to press the right stick to crouch, but if you have changed your bindings at any point then check what you normally use. Then simply press it and run and slide away.
How to slide in Fortnite on the PS4 / PS5
You will see a pattern emerging here if you have read the above. To slide on the PlayStation you need to hit your crouch button while running. The default mapping here is the LB but if you have changed this at any point then you need to use whatever button you have mapped to it.
How to use slide in Fortnite
As with any new gameplay mechanic, it will take a little time to learn when to best use it. Slides are best used on hills to speed down them quicker. If you have somebody trying to pick you off a well-timed slide may force them to miss their shot, allowing you time to make cover. Sliding is great for covering open ground quicker too if you want to hurry across somewhere faster without being spotted, or if you want to arrive at the loot before somebody else in your party!
