If you thought we’d taken care of the Fortnite IO faction once and for all, think again.

Fortnite IO drill locations

The latest chapter of Fortnite’s epic story started with the IO, or The Imagined Order, seemingly lost to the other side of the map after the entire island flipped in the thrilling and catastrophic end of Chapter 2. While we don’t really know about how the two sides of the island co-exist, it seems they do, as mounds of dirt that have appeared on the new Artemis island are starting to reveal members of the IO drilling through.

Where are the Fortnite IO drill locations?

East of Sleep Sound

Fortnite leaker has revealed the location of a new IO drill location East of Sleep Sound.

South of Greasy Grove

The second IO drills site is location to the East of the wind turbines. If you’re dropping straight in here, simply follow the river the wind turbines and you’ll see the drill site at the first prominent meander.

East of Logjam Lumberyard

The first Fortnite IO appearance, on January 4th, 2022, is just to the east of Logjam Lumberyard. If you can take on two members of the IO (and any enemy players who decide to drop here), this is a great place to drop in and pick up some decent loot.

According to Fortnite leaker iFireMonkey, there will be a total of five drill holes across the Artemis map. We’ll update you with the new locations as the IO continues to drill through. We believe future Fortnite IO drill locations are based around the mounds of dirt you can already find on the map’s surface – but that’s just our theory.

What is Fortnite’s IO faction?

The Imagined Order was introduced to Fortnite lore back in Chapter 2, and it turns out they are the organization in charge of The Loop. They control The Loop by manipulating the Zero Point, using it to travel between dimensions, and The Foundation – Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s leader of The Seven – has warned that they could destroy the balance of The Omniverse.

We have previously battled the NPC members of the IO, including the likes of Doctor Slone, but have so far had a respite from their attacks in Chapter 3. This now changes as the IO has started to successfully drill through to our surface of the Flipped map, as of January 4th, 2022.

What does the IO’s drill mean for Fortnite Chapter 3?

Most simply, this just means that we’ll have new hostile NPCs to be aware of as we travel across the current Fortnite map. Combine this with the wildlife and upcoming weather changes and Fortnite PvE is becoming more gruelling than ever.

Longer-term, this will likely mean the introduction of Snow Stealth Slone as an NPC as we get more IO drill locations in Fortnite Chapter 3. We know about Slone’s new variant as she is available as this month’s Fortnite Crew Outfit pack. In Chapter 2, Doctor Slone was a particularly difficult NPC to defeat due to her ability to clone herself, which we can assume will be the same this time around.

The IO breaking through to the flip side of the island will also further the Fortnite story. Of course, this was not going to be the end of the IO, as defeating the Imagined Order, in theory, means the end of The Loop.
