Gyro controls have already been in Fortnite for some time for both NIntendo Switch consoles and Android devices. The new update on February 15th, 2022, rolled this out to include PlayStation 4 and 5, as well as PC, on Gyro-enabled controllers. Update 19.30 also makes some adjustments to existing Gyro controls across all compatible platforms.
What are Gyro controls?
Well, you know that old habit of moving a video game controller as you, say, steered a car in Mario Kart? That joke of a habit you’d get mocked for? Yeah, that’s gyro controls. And it’s a thing. Not that surprising any more given since the days of the Wii remote and steering wheel controllers, but it’s also available in Fortnite.

So how do you enable Gyro controls in Fortnite?
Even if you are playing on a gyro-compatible device, gyro controls will be switched off by default, so you’ll need to turn them on if you want to give them a try.
- Head to Settings
- Go along to Touch and Motion
- Turn Gyro Aiming to On
This will simply turn default gyro setting on, at which point you can then further choose how you want Gyro to affect your Fortnite gameplay. Choose from a range of sensitivity options, as well as whether you want gyro on for aiming, building, or harvesting. What is the Flick Stick option?
Flick Stick is entirely new to the Fortnite Gyro experience, and is recommended to compliment the gyro experience for experienced gyro players. By turning the Flick Stick on, you will change the use of the right analogue stick. As a Flick Stick, moving the right stick in a direction will cause the camera to immediately “flick” in that direction. This means you can no longer use the stick to move the camera normally, though, so may take some getting used to for newer gyro players.
What Gyro-enabled controllers can I use?
On PC and PlayStation, Loopers can utilise the Gyro controls if playing with a DualShock 4 controller. Meanwhile, Nintendo Switch gamers can make the most of gyro controls using either the Joy-Cons or a Nintendo Pro Controller.
