Forza Horizon 5 has just had the biggest launch day for an Xbox Game Studios game, even with hundreds of thousands of people already playing on early access. So, despite the game being hailed as one of the best games of the year across the board, some Forza players are understandably aggravated at a number of bugs that are occurring, including being disconnected when trying to play with friends.

This particular error may show when you are trying to play online multiplayer game modes. Multiple players have reported that they are able to join with friends for a matter of moments, before being kicked from the lobby. Reports suggest that, if and when players get back in, the same thing simply happens again, making multiplayer gameplay near impossible.

How to fix ‘You have been disconnected’ error

There are a few things you can try if this is happening to you, but this list is not exhaustive and we cannot guarantee that any will work. Let us know in the comments if any do work for you, though, so we can keep an eye on the best fixes available!

Try rebooting your router

Yep, that old classic of turning it off and on again is always worth a try. While you could always try it with your Xbox console or PC to start with, we’d certainly recommend turning your router off for about 30 seconds and then turning it back on again. As this is in an issue with internet stability, this simple fix may help — if you’re lucky.

Try a wired connection

Similarly, you could always try a wired connection if you are getting Forza‘s ‘you have been disconnected’ error when using Wifi. This might not be suitable for everyone due to cables and distances, but if you can connect your console or PC to your router using an ethernet cable, then give it a whirl. This will improve your internet connectivity, and thus may prevent you from being kicked out of online gameplay.

On PC, check your antivirus software

Finally, if you’re playing on PC, you may find that your antivirus software is interfering with Forza Horizon 5. This can be a common problem with antivirus software, and, while we wouldn’t necessarily recommend disabling it (but if you do, don’t forget to turn it back on again!), you can have a look if Forza Horizon 5 is being allowed through your firewall.

Whichever antivirus software you are using, you should be able to locate the firewall settings. Start off by right clicking on the antivirus icon in your taskbar. Somewhere in your firewall settings, you should be able to check which apps are allowed through the firewall, and check the box next to Forza Horizon 5 if it is not already.
