Ayato is a 5-star Hydro Sword character who specialises as Main DPS, and is only available on the Character Event Wish banner while he is featured character. Keep reading to find out what materials are needed to Ascend Ayato, his best builds and an overview of how to use him effectively.

Ayato Ascension Stat

All characters in Genshin Impact have a particular stat that levels up alongside their base stats. For Ayato, this extra stat is CRIT DMG. This will help boost his overall DMG, and make him a little easier to build Artifact stat-wise.

In order to make Ayato stronger, you’ll need to upgrade his talents. The materials you will need are:

  • Old Handguard
  • Kageuchi Handguard
  • Famed Handguard
  • Teachings of Elegance
  • Guide to Elegance
  • Philosophies of Elegance
  • Mudra Of The Malefic General

The Teachings, Guide and Philosophies of Elegance can be obtained by completing the Domain of Mastery: Thundering Valley every Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. Meanwhile, the Mudra Of The Malefic General is a potential drop from the Weekly Magatsu Mitake Narukami no Mikoto Challenge.

Ayato Best Weapons

As a Main DPS, Ayato has plenty of good weapon options. Some weapons you could use are:

WeaponRarity
Haran Geppaku Futsu5-star
Primordial Jade Cutter5-star
Mistsplitter Reforged5-star
The Black Sword4-star
Lion’s Roar4-star
Genshin Impact Ayato Weapon

Ayato’s best in slot is the Haran Geppaku Futsu. It’s his signature weapon, giving him a good amount of CRIT Rate and passive which effectively increases his Normal Attack DMG, which is his main source of DMG. The Primordial Jade Cutter is also a very good choice for him, giving much more CRIT Rate than the Haran Geppaku Futsu in exchange for less Base ATK. It also increases his Max HP, which is useful as his Skill’s Namisen stacks scale off his Max HP. Mistsplitter is another great option for Ayato, with its incredibly high Base ATK and very respectable CRIT DMG substat. Its passive will also increase his Elemental DMG, which he’ll be able to stack decently well.

For his 4-star options, The Black Sword is a great option. Not only does it have a decent CRIT Rate substat and high Base ATK, but its passive will also increase his Normal Attack DMG, which is perfect for Ayato. Alternatively, the Lion’s Roar is actually quite viable on Ayato, so long as you use him in an Electro-Charged team. It also has a tonne of ATK, which will increase Ayato’s DMG output nicely. Because this weapon doesn’t have any CRIT stats, you’ll want to make sure your Artifacts are sufficient for creating a solid CRIT ratio.

Ayato Best Artifacts

His best Artifact set is debatable, since there are a few sets that work very well on Ayato. 4-Piece Echoes of an Offering will increase his ATK by 18% and give his Normal Attacks a chance to deal increased DMG. The DMG increase can be a bit inconsistent, however, its DMG capabilities do make up for it. Another set you could try on him is 4-Piece Heart of Depth. The 2-Piece set will increase his Hydro DMG by 15% which is very nice, and the 4-Piece set increases his Normal and Charged Attack DMG by 30% for 15s, which works very well with his playstyle since this is about as long as his Skill lasts. Finally, you could try 4-Piece Gladiator’s Finale, which will increase his ATK by 18%, and also increase his Normal Attack DMG by 35% since he uses a Sword. Ultimately, the set you choose to use on him should mainly come down to what Artifacts have the best substats, and go from there.

For low-level players, 4-Piece Martial Artist works well until you’re able to get higher level Artifacts.

Genshin Impact Ayato Artifacts

For your Artifact main stats, you will want to run:

  • ATK% Sands
  • Hydro DMG Bonus Goblet
  • CRIT DMG / Rate Circlet

In terms of Artifact substats, you’ll want to focus on ATK%, Energy Recharge, Elemental Mastery, a little HP% and both CRIT DMG and CRIT Rate.

How to Use Ayato

His Elemental Skill, Kamisato Art: Kyouka, shifts Ayato’s position and he enters the Takimeguri Kanka state. After this shift, he will leave a watery illusion at his original location. After it is formed, the watery illusion will explode if opponents are nearby or after its duration ends, dealing AoE Hydro DMG. In the Takimeguri Kanka state, Kamisato Ayato uses his Shunsuiken to engage in blindingly fast attacks, causing DMG from his Normal Attacks to be converted into AoE Hydro DMG. This cannot be overridden. It also has the following properties: after a Shunsuiken attack hits an opponent, it will grant Ayato the Namisen effect, increasing the DMG dealt by Shunsuiken based on Ayato’s current Max HP. The initial maximum number of Namisen stacks is 4, and 1 stack can be gained through Shunsuiken every 0.1s. This effect will be dispelled when Takimeguri Kanka ends. Kamisato Ayato’s resistance to interruption is increased. He is unable to use Charged or Plunging Attacks, and Takimeguri Kanka will be cleared when Ayato leaves the field. Using Kamisato Art: Kyouka again while in the Takimeguri Kanka state will reset and replace the pre-existing state.

His Elemental Burst, Kamisato Art: Suiyuu, unveils a garden of purity that silences the cacophony within. While this space exists, Bloomwater Blades will constantly rain down and attack opponents within its AoE, dealing Hydro DMG and increasing the Normal Attack DMG of characters within.

Ayato acts as an on-field auto-attacker, but with a twist. Rather than dealing Physical DMG, Ayato can imbue his Normal Attacks with Hydro after using his Skill. But unlike other characters who perform this mechanic, such as Hu Tao and Yoimiya, Ayato’s Normal Attacks take on a new form. This keeps him in place while he deals AoE Hydro DMG, and you can swivel him around while continuously slashing. Or, if your enemies are too far out of range, you can simply run over to them and resume your slashing. His Burst deals decent DMG, but you’ll mainly be using it for the Normal Attack DMG buff.

Best Team Comps

Ayato can work well in Electro-Charged teams, thanks to his consistent Hydro DMG. For this team comp, you’ll want to team Ayato with two Electro units, like Beidou, the Raiden Shogun, Fischl or Yae, and an Anemo character equipped with 4-Piece Viridescent Venerer. Ayato can also work well on Vaporize teams, one again thanks to his Hydro DMG. Therefore, pairing him with Bennett and Xiangling is a must, with your final slot likely being an Anemo character. Finally, Ayato can work well on Freeze teams; you’ll want to bring two Cryo characters such as Kaeya and Rosaria, and an Anemo character to spread the Elements among your opponents and group them together.
