Half-life was one of the most highly-praised FPS titles of the late 90s. This was one of the first shooter games that experimented with a heavy focus on narrative storytelling rather than the pure action focus that has been so common in previous games. Over the years, gamers have done everything with this title, from exploring its hidden depths to turning it into a hugely popular web video series. If you think that you’ve seen everything the game has to offer, then you should check out console commands.
Half-Life console commands can really change the way that you see the game. From giving you the ability to fly through walls into areas you can’t normally get to, to making you god incarnate, there’s almost nothing that these commands cannot do. Read on to discover the best console commands in the game, all in one place.
How to Enable the Console
Before you can mess around with the console, you’re going to need to enable it first. The method for this will change a bit depending on which version of the game you have. If you’re playing the Steam version of the game, you can right-click it in your library, select properties then put the code below into the Launch Options field. If you’re playing a disc or DRM-free version of the game, right-click the game’s executable and create a shortcut. Open the properties of the shortcut and put the code below in the target field, but make sure there’s a space after the text that’s already there or it won’t work.
For the regular edition of the game:
-console
For the game of the year edition of the game:
-dev -console
Once that’s done you can enable the console by running the shortcut version you’ve created. If you’re doing the steam version, you’ll be able to run it as normal. Either way, tap the key underneath the Escape key to bring up the console
Half-Life Useful Console Commands
There are an insane number of commands that you can use in the game, so we’ve split them into two separate lists, so you have an easier time finding them when you need them. These commands are mostly things that can help you, but won’t make you insanely powerful or ruin the challenge. Still, best to backup your saves before using them. You have been warned.
