Halo Infinite is indeed crossplay, meaning you can play it with your friends regardless of whether you’re playing on an Xbox or a Windows PC. It’s also cross-progression, so you’ll retain items and progress if you’re a person that likes to hop between the two.
The game’s multiplayer mode is also free-to-play, meaning that you can download it from Steam or the Microsoft Store and jump right in as of November 15, 2020.
How do I turn off Halo Infinite crossplay?
Put bluntly, you can’t. Sorry. There’s currently no way to turn off crossplay, and even doing it in the Xbox console settings doesn’t actually disable it.
You can choose to disable keyboard and mouse in Ranked Mode, so you can at least make shooting at each other fairer. You’ll find the option when setting up for Ranked, near the option to choose to play solo, in a duo or as part of a team.
The lack of ability to disable crossplay has caused some ruckus in fandom, with casual players on the 30FPS Xbox One particularly annoyed about the decision, as seen in this Reddit thread.
Players on Xbox One X and Xbox Series X/S are less likely to be angry as frame rates are higher (60FPS on One X and Series X/S, 120 FPS optional on Series X), but controller with aim assist vs mouse and keyboard still remains an issue.
Only time will tell if Microsoft and 343 will change their minds on this decision and add more options to make the game experience better for Halo players. We know they have a good track record, as they updated the Halo: Master Chief Collection for 7 years. Chances are they’ll work on it.
