Merlin Trials in Hogwarts Legacy – solutions & where to find them

In order to find the Merlin Trials, you’ll have to refer to your map. Merlin Trials are dotted around the map as soon as you solve your very first puzzle with a leaf-like marker. This makes finding Merlin Trials simply, and you’re free to roam the world and try your hand at puzzles in your vicinity. The Merlin Trials are said to be created by Merlin himself as a Hogwarts student.

There are plenty of Merlin Trials around, so we can’t cover every single one of them in one article. Instead, we’ll be giving you some handy pointers and tips on how to solve several Merlin Trials that we came across.

Five small stone balls Merlin Trial

This is a fairly simple puzzle to come across, and a recurring theme in Merlin Trials. An important factor in these trials is that you’ll often need a particular spell to solve them. For this trial, you’ll need to use Accio to pull the stone balls and place them in the marked slot. A fifth stone ball sits on top. In regards to stone balls, we found that many are placed in raised places such as hills or cliffs.

Five stone slabs Merlin Trial

This Merlin Trial mostly concerns having the correct spell in order to break these arranged stone slabs. There are five stone slabs arranged around a Merlin Trial marker to break, which is a piece of cake with a spell such as Confringo. Stick around the marker and don’t end up wandering off.

Globes on plinths Merlin Trial

This again should be a fairly straightforward task given you have the Confringo spell. This is a basic cast, so Merlin Trials such as these don’t require much forethought. The globes on plinths tend to stick out among the scenery, but if you’re having trouble, use Revelio to highlight interactive objects.

Obstacle course Merlin Trial

Some good old platforming is the key to this Merlin Trial. No need for any fancy spells or wizardry. Simple trials like these are great for helping you better understand movement. Navigating the world of Hogwarts Legacy should be easy once you become well versed in an obstacle course like this.

Guiding moths Merlin Trial

Now back to some wizardry. We found three clusters of moths to guide around in this particular Merlin Trial. Using the Lumio spell, you can command the nearby cluster of moths to the stone cube statues. Just make sure you don’t lead them in the wrong direction and get too lost.

Light torches Merlin Trial

Time to bring some fire to the equation. Spells such as Incendio or Confringo are great for lighting torches. Simply navigate the area and spot any unlit torches in order to complete this Merlin Trial. Some lit torches will start sinking into the ground and you’ll have to light them all before it’s too late.

Large stone ball Merlin Trial

Now for a new spell to play around with – Depulso. This is probably one of the most useful spells you’ll learn early on in the game. Depulso allows you to push objects (and people) around with force. For a large stone like this, use this spell to push it in to the slot marked on the ground. We found that this particular Trial required some searching around with Revelio in order to find the correct boulder.

What rewards do you get from Merlin Trials?

First thing to mention is that starting a Merlin Trial requires the cost of 1x Mallowsweet. Although this doesn’t seem like much, you can find yourself running low on Mallowsweet supplies if you’re breezing through the Merlin Trials like a Hogwarts Legacy pro. You can grow more Mallowsweets with Mauve Seeds in the Room of Requirement. The small cost though is well worth the payoff and progression from completing these puzzles.

You can expect to receive rewards such as inventory expansion within the Merlin Trials challenges tab. Solving 20 Merlin Trials for example will net you at least 40 gear slots from what we’ve seen so far. Luckily you can complete Merlin Trials in whichever order you feel like and work through the challenge progression. All that extra storage space for gear will definitely come in handy as your collection builds up.
