Tallnecks first made an appearance in Horizon Zero Dawn and they show up in the brand-new sequel as well. Just like Zero Dawn, overriding Tallnecks completely clears the fog in your map for the respective area. There are new ways to override machines in Forbidden West but Tallnecks have not changed in terms of mechanics. Here is a quick guide on how to override Tallnecks in Horizon Forbidden West.

How to Override Tallnecks in Horizon Forbidden West

It is strongly recommended to override Tallnecks in Horizon Forbidden West as it will help you clearly see the map. If you do not override Tallnecks in each of the respective areas, you will have to manually explore the entire map, which could mean that you miss out on side quests and other secrets.

While the task seems daunting, do not let the size of the Tallnecks fool you. They are extremely docile and do not aggressively target you. The trick is to get creative and find out how you can climb all the way onto each Tallneck’s head.

The heads of the Tallneck beasts are actually satellite dishes that you need access to. There are clever visual markers present in the areas near Tallnecks to help you get to them. In every Talloneck’s situation, you need to climb your way to the high ground. As soon as you get the opportunity to jump onto a Tallneck’s back, do not waste time and get on its back immediately.

Once you are on a Tallneck, it is important to make sure that you do not fall off as you will die to fall damage. Slowly make your way to the neck area and you will notice that there is an override option that you should activate.

Once you activate a Tallneck’s override function, you will be able to see the nearby area without any fog on your map. Clearing out the fog helps you spot those sneaky little secrets and get a 100% completion.
