Massive video games have never really managed to really convincingly sort out how to make characters travel from one side of a vast world to the other while keeping the player in the experience. We either end up with a walking simulator such as Death Stranding which doesn’t appeal to everybody or we end up being able to whizz across the landscape by some ham-fisted plot furniture baked into the storyline.

In Horizon Forbidden West we have Fast Travel Packs which are necessary to speedily relocate. The thing is, you don’t always need one. Sometimes you do, sometimes you don’t That’s the magical world we live in.

How to Fast Travel in Horizon Forbidden West

Horizon Forbidden West utilizes a system of campfires to traverse between. Once you have visited one, you can fast travel back to it pretty much whenever you want, cutting out unnecessarily bland journey times. Campfires are where you can save your game and you should always do so when one is in the vicinity.

You will find plenty of campfires around and this actually makes travel a breeze as you get further into the game. It is important to understand what type of fast travel is going to cost you a Fast Travel Pack.

If you open the map and select a previously discovered campfire and hold down your right trigger you will zoom to that location for the princely sum of one Travel Pack.

If however, you are already at a campfire you can hit your Circle button to fast travel to another campfire and it won’t cost you anything, saving a Travel pack for a more useful moment in the future.

What are Travel Packs in Horizon Forbidden West?

Travel Packs enable you to speed around the giant world in mere seconds so are extra handy. Travel Packs cost 25 metal shards and can be bought from any Hunting merchant. You can also craft them yourself.

How to craft Travel Packs in Horizon Forbidden West

If you are the thrifty type and want to keep your metal shards for an unexpected rainy day, you can also craft your own travel packs in HFW,

Bring up Aloy’s Hunter Kit by pressing Down on your trusty d-pad and you can craft them from there, as long as you have 10 Ridge Wood and three Wild Meat.
