The Black Boxes in Horizon Forbidden West offer more information about the Old Ones. The previous human civilization left us with important information that we can use in these boxes. There are twelve of them that you can collect throughout the game and trading them in can earn you very rare machine parts for your efforts.
All Twelve Black Box Locations in Horizon Forbidden West
Here are the locations for all twelve Black Boxes that you can collect:
No Man’s Land: The first black box is located on the south side of Stone’s echo among some rocks between a vampire and a shelter.
The Whitewatch Peaks: The second Black Box is located in the mountains southwest of Plainsong. You need to head to the northern campfire and find it near a pile of debris.
Jagged Deep: The third black box is located in the water of No Man’s land. Players need to head to the south side with your DIving Mask. If you don’t have a Diving Mask, you will get it during the Main Quest as you progress through the campaign.
The Promontory: The fourth Black Box is tucked behind a Metal Flower on a raised platform located on the east side of Plainsong.
Bleeding Mark: The fifth Black Box is located just north of Salvage Contractor: The Greenswell. Players will need to do a fair bit of climbing but the item is easily accessible once you climb enough.
The Stillsands: The sixth Black Box is located in the plane wreckage in the Stillsands ruins. You will need to complete the quest Seeds of the Past to learn how to clear Metal Flowers.
Memorial Grove: Head to the east of Memorial Grove and you will find the Black Box just over a river inside the wreckage of a cargo plane.
Salt Bite: Find the Hunter merchant in Salt Bite and head behind the merchant to find a secret panel that will lead you to the Black Box.
Raintrace: The ninth Black Box is located just north of the Raintrace area and southeast of the nearby Hunting Grounds. You will need to clear a Metal Flower, find a power cell, transfer it to the other side of the wreckage, and activate the repository to get the Black Box.
Bonewhite Tear: Go to the Shelter in the Bulwark and you will find a power cell. Take it to the locked door in the wreckage and you will find the Black Box inside.
Stand of the Sentinels: Head north of The Long Coast and find a wooden platform opposite one half of a ruined plane. Head to the wreckage and pry open the door to get access to the Black Box.
Isle of Spires: The final black box can be found in the Charger Mount Site in the Isle of Spires. You will find it right next to the cockpit of the downed plane in the area.
Take all of the Black Boxes to Untalla who is marked as the Black Box Collector on the map and you will be rewarded with rare resources.
