Horizon Forbidden West builds on its predecessor’s established mechanics and presents you with a string of choices throughout the campaign. There are plenty of times you have to make difficult choices and while some choices greatly affect the storyline, others do not. One of the first choices you have to make as Aloy in the campaign is if you want to leave the Tenakth tribe and go to the Forbidden West.

Should You Stay Or Go?

When presented with the choice to stay in the village or go, you can go with either option. Your decision will not affect the Tenakth tribe’s relationship with you but it simply delays the campaign progress. If you want to explore the area and look for upgrade items, collectibles, or resources, it is worth staying. However, if you want to move on with the story and get started with your journey to the Forbidden West, you should choose to leave immediately.

At the start of the campaign, we see Aloy make her way to the Tenakth tribe which controls the Western Front of the in-game world. If you want to go look for Sylens, they will offer safe passage and you can begin your journey.

If you choose to wait, the Tenakth Embassy will allow you to explore No Man’s Land a little while longer and there are no consequences when choosing either option. The Embassy will not force you to begin the campaign at any point and you can feel free to check out the contained No Man’s Land Area until you are ready to venture out on your own.

Your choice does not matter but future decisions will make an impact on the in-game world. In subsequent story points, you need to make your choices very carefully as they can completely change your gameplay experience.
