The Gate of the Vanquished is a side quest available in the early game. Players get access to the quest after completing The Wound in the Sand. Acquiring the quest from Jetakka and completing it rewards you with 3,750 XP, three skill points, and the Firestorm Warrior Bow.

The quest follows the story of Commander Yarra who faces unrest within the clan as the water supply is running dry and it is up to Aloy to help the village. It is one of the few side quests that force you to take a side and you will not be able to use diplomacy to get a neutral ending to the quest.

How to Complete The Gate of the Vanquished in Horizon Forbidden West

Once you complete the Wound in the Sand quest, you will have to head to The Gate of the Vanquished and talk to Jetakka. You will notice that there is a fight ensuing between Drakka and Yarra. Players have the option of siding with one of them. If you choose a neutral option and don’t want to make a choice, you will be forced to side with one of them anyway.

It does not matter which character you choose as the rewards and consequences of both endings are the same. Once you make your choice, the person you do not choose will fight you. You will get the “Chose a Desert Commander” trophy upon beating your foe.

The quick quest will reward you with three skill points and the Firestorm Warrior Bow as soon as you complete it. And it also unlocks the third and final part of the questline “Errand: Burden of Command” in Scalding Spear. With the village still not finding a solution to its water problems, it is up to Aloy to do something about it and help them.
