Sons Of The Forest has certainly impressed so far, even though it has only initially launched in Early Access. Veteran players of the series and beginners alike can enjoy the game, especially once you know how to activate Peaceful Mode.
How to turn on Peaceful Mode in Sons Of The Forest
Turning on Peaceful Mode in Sons Of The Forest is nice and easy. This option can be selected before you start a new save game on the main menu, as you can see below. Here are the steps to do so.
- Open Sons Of The Forest, or navigate back to the main menu
- Click on either Single Player or Multiplayer game
- Select Peaceful from the range of options
There doesn’t seem to be a way of changing the difficulty after starting the save, unless you do some tinkering with the game’s files. It’s best to start with Peaceful Mode straight away if that’s the experience you’re looking to enjoy.
What is Peaceful Mode in Sons Of The Forest?
Peaceful Mode in Sons Of The Forest is the game’s answer to an easy mode, as you may have guessed. Don’t think it’s all peace and quiet though, as there are still enemies around for you to encounter – just much fewer than you’ll experience in the harder difficulty options.
Let’s see what exactly Peaceful Mode changes about Sons Of The Forest:
- No cannibal enemies
- No mutant enemies
This of course makes surviving much easier, as you don’t need to worry about the constant threat of getting ambushed. This mode really helps introduce you to some of the other aspects of the game, such as exploring the map and building/crafting. You can really focus on learning how to build a base and simply enjoy your stay on the island peacefully while taking in the narrative.
It’s important to note that you’ll still run into some conflict eventually though. Here are a few things that Peaceful Mode doesn’t disable:
- Gore and blood
- Bosses – these are needed for progression
- Animals/wildlife still exist for hunting – they can be hostile as usual
Peaceful Mode was a feature of the original game, The Forest. It’s nice to see that it’s made a return to ensure that players of all skill levels or preferences can enjoy the game as they like.
Is Peaceful Mode in Sons Of The Forest too easy?
Peaceful Mode is indeed designed to be an easier experience than all the other difficulty options in Sons Of The Forest. It’s most certainly too easy if you’re already a survival expert or avid player of The Forest. However, it’s a good mode to learn the ins and outs of your surroundings and game mechanics before you tackle something more challenging. Likewise, you may just enjoy the exploration, building, and narrative aspects of the game and dislike combat. If this is the case, then Peaceful Mode is perfect for you.
If you’re completely new to the game or genre, Peaceful Mode can provide you with enough engagement. Getting used to the flow of gathering supplies, crafting, building, and hunting down food can be difficult if you’re a newbie. The constant threat of cannibals or mutants on top of that may make playing the game feel overwhelming.
