Link is a capable fighter but sometimes sneaking is the best option. You won’t always have the upper hand when it comes to taking down enemies, so a stealthy approach is a great plan of action. For those who prefer to plan their plan of attack or if you’re looking to tame a horse, here’s how to crouch in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

How do you crouch in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

To make Link crouch in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, click the left thumbstick directional button on the Nintendo Switch controller. Doing so will cause Link to enter stealth mode making his footsteps quieter. This is useful for sneaking up on enemies and horses you may want to tame. Once crouching, you can use other buttons as normal but be warned, attacking with the Y button or jumping without moving will cancel the crouch position. You can use the joy-con to move Link around the map and press X to jump forward a bit without leaving crouch.

What does crouch do in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

Crouching is great for exploration as it allows Link to move more stealthily. It affects your purple noise sensors on the bottom right corner of the screen. While you can move quite fast while crouching, the faster you move, the more noise you’ll make. Enemies who notice Link sneaking around will appear with a question mark above their heads.

To ensure you sneak up properly on a target, move slowly until you’re able to fire an arrow from afar or you can lock on with the ZL button. When you’re directly behind an unknowing target, you can forgo a normal attack and instead go for a sneakstrike attack. Performing a successful sneak attack will deal a large amount of damage to an enemy.
