When it comes to upgrade materials in Destiny 2, none are more sought after than Ascendant Shards. These little golf ball-sized materials are what you need to masterwork any piece of armor and to buy exotics from the kiosk in the Tower.
Since these shards are so valuable, they have been made quite hard to get to keep them balanced. As such, many new players will have a hard time finding where to get any Ascendant Shards. let’s go over how you can get Ascendant Shard in Destiny 2.
Where To Get Ascendant Shards in Destiny 2
Sadly you won’t be able to pick up these shards as simply as you would some of the new Root of Nightmares raid loot. However, there are a few methods that you can use to get a couple of Ascendant Shards before you have to go diving into endgame content.
Rahool The Cryptarch
While you will frequently visit Rahool to turn your engrams into gear, he does actually have a few items to sell you including the coveted Ascendant Shard. However, this is not a cheap method of getting the shards if you need more than one or two. Each shard from Rahool will cost you 10 Enhancement Prisms and 50,000 Glimmer.
This is seen by many players as a sort of last-ditch option for getting Ascendant Shards just due to the sheer cost of it all. Getting Enhancement Prisms is also quite hard for many players so handing over 10 is not really a great option for them.
Vendor Ranks
As you play various activities throughout the season, you will increase your reputation rank with that activity’s respective vendor. If you can manage to reach the max rank with an activity, you can reset your rank to get a free Ascendant Shard.
It can take a bit of time to grind up the rep needed to reset your rank, but if you wait around until there is a double rep week for an activity, the grind can be cut in half. You can also pick up a copy of Ecliptic Distaff from some of the vendors during this grind as well.
High-Level Nightfalls
The main method that most players use to farm for their Ascendant Shards is to play through Master and GrandMaster Nightfalls. While these are some of the hardest activities in Destiny 2, they do also give some of the best rewards imaginable.
One completion of a GrandMaster Nightfall will give you at least one Ascendant Shard. If you wait around until there are double Vanguard rewards for a week and farm the Nightfall then, each GrandMaster will give you two Ascendant Shards per run. If you are having trouble completing a high-level run of the Nightfall, you might want to consider trying out a new class in Destiny 2.
