One of the most basic human needs, but how do you get & drink water in Sons Of The Forest? Well, this is of course an important part of the gameplay, so you’ll need to know exactly how it’s done. As you start on quest for survival on this remote island, this is probably one of the first things on your mind – especially once the thirst starts kicking in.

From what we’ve seen so far, there seem to be more resources around for drinking water in Sons Of The Forest, in comparison to it’s predecessor, The Forest. So, let’s get straight to it before you die of thirst without any answers to your query.

How to drink water in Sons Of The Forest

Drinking water in Sons Of The Forest is as simple as you’d probably expect. Simply approach somewhere with suitable drinking water and press E (default bind) to drink it. In order to drink water, you shouldn’t be carrying anything. Press G and you’ll drop what you’re holding.

Of course, you should be weary when trekking to find drinking water, so we’re going to show you the best way of finding it just below.

One more thing to add though is that other things can quench your thirst if you can’t source any water and are desperate to do so. A few of these things include:

  • Yarrow plant.
  • Blackberries.
  • Blueberries.
  • Salmonberries.
  • Energy drinks.

Unfortunately, this is (understandably) much slower and less effective, so let’s show you where to find drinking water next.

How to find drinking water in Sons Of The Forest

First of all, you can actually find drinks within suitcases and crates within the crash zone following the introduction of the game. There are additional crash sites on the map too, which are nice places for building a base. We’d suggest stocking up on as many of these drinks as you can, so you don’t go thirsty on your first night of Sons Of The Forest. Finding water will be one of your priorities once you start to run out though. Here’s the best way to find drinking water in Sons Of The Forest:

  • Use your GPS map (open by pressing M).
  • Use the middle mouse scroll to zoom out and view more of the map.
  • Locate a river on the GPS minimap and make your way there.

So, that’s the easiest way to locate drinking water. We’ve seen players praising the fact that this is much easier than it was previously, which is nice to see.

Storing water in Sons Of The Forest

Once you’ve made your way through the initial stages of the game and got yourself all set up, there are a couple of ways to start storing water more effectively to save on trips down to the closest river.

  • Flask – this is created by the 3D printer, which you’ll find within one of the game’s bunkers.
  • In the original The Forest, you could use Turtle Shells to store water, perhaps this mechanic will return.

How often do you need to drink water in Sons Of The Forest?

You may be wondering, just how long exactly can you go without drinking anything in Sons Of The Forest? Well, thankfully the game’s UI is nice and clear in this regard. All of your survival needs are place in the bottom right on the game’s HUD, right by the minimap. This includes other meters such as health, stamina, hunger, and energy/sleep.

The water droplet indicates your current level of thirst. If it’s nice and green, you’re good to go. Once the meter starts to deplete, especially when it’s turning red, then you know it’s time to hydrate. A notification will show in the bottom left to say ‘You are thirsty’ as well once that thirst meter is low. This is why it’s always a good idea to store water, stock up on drinks & berries, or simply stay nearby water.
