So, this is a crafting guide for a ‘regular door’ in Sons Of The Forest. There’s no need to start off too fancy, after all. Some people seem to be reporting that the process can be a little confusing or fiddly, but we’re going to explain it as simply as possible.

How to build a door in Sons Of The Forest

Crafting is clearly a massive part of Sons Of The Forest, and most survival games. You’ll definitely want to start building as soon as you’re familiar with the basics of the game. What good is a base if you have no way of entering or exiting it?

Time to get down to business and craft/build a regular door in Sons Of The Forest. Building a door – or gate – requires the following resources:

  • 8 logs
  • An Axe

The building in this game feels very free-style, therefore it definitely can be a bit tricky to get a hang of, though you do get small building instructions in-game. It does feel rewarding once you succeed.

  • Craft a wall by stacking six logs up horizontally
  • Equip your axe and cut out a center piece from the bottom five logs (hold left click)
  • Now you have a frame to place a door within, so equip the two additional logs
  • Bring the two logs over to the door frame and you’ll notice a vertical line prompt
  • A prompt will allow you to left click with the logs to split them
  • Place they split logs within the doorway

You can also split the logs with your axe prior to setting them up in the frame if you wish.

Why you should make a door in Sons Of The Forest

There are some obvious reasons why you should learn how to make a door in Sons Of The Forest, besides just making your base feel a little more homely. You’ll be better protected from the outside world and will have an overall better base to work from moving forward. Especially if you decide to set up camp in a colder region, or for when winter approaches.

There’s so much more to learn during your adventure on Sons Of The Forest, so we look forward to discovering more about this exciting survival horror title.

Can you lock a door in Sons Of The Forest?

UPDATE NOTE: As of Patch 01 on Thursday March 9th 2023, you can now lock doors. This is done with a stick, and can be placed on the interior of the door to lock it. You can see the full patch notes for this update here.

So if you have your door snugly in place, you should be happy, right? Well, that’s not the end of the story for many of us. A door without a lock may invite in some unwanted guests. Therefore, it’s probably a good idea to put together a lock to keep those cannibals off your property. Unfortunately, as of right now, there is no way of locking doors in Sons Of The Forest. We hope to see a feature like this make it’s way into the game during Early Access.

One workaround for this problem at the moment is simply placing something such as a log or stick in front of the door to block it to all. Alternatively, some users on Steam Community discussions have reported that a paper target can get the job done too.
