Meditation is a fairly new addition to Destiny 2, as it was just added with the Witch Queen expansion. The whole point of the system was to introduce a new way for new players to unlock abilities over time. This replaced the much worse system of just being handed all of your abilities as soon as you spawn in.

However, just being told to meditate is a bit confusing to most players. Not to mention that there is no clear indication of how you are supposed to do so. With that said, here is how you can meditate to unlock new abilities in Destiny 2.

How To Meditate On Your Light In Destiny 2

The first question that many players might have is when do you even need to meditate? This is not something that commonly comes up in the game as it was only added with the reworked subclasses with the release of the Witch Queen.

In order to have the need to meditate, you first need to purchase new pieces of your light subclasses from Ikora Rey in the tower. Whether it be core abilities you buy, your aspects for the class, or the fragments for it, you will need to meditate after any purchase you make.

After you have bought all of the pieces of your subclass that you want, you will then be told that you need to meditate to fully unlock the power. While there are a few meditative emotes in the game, what you will instead be looking for is the light focus next to Ikora.

Destiny 2 Mediation Interaction

When you have the need to meditate, it will be lit up and moving. You can then interact with it to quickly meditate. After a short animation and a bright flash on your screen, you will have unlocked all the new powers you got from Ikora.

You will need to do this every time you buy powers from Ikora, so buying in bulk is recommended. Most of the core abilities for your subclass only cost 5,000 to 10,000 Glimmer. It is the fragments for each subclass that will empty out your wallet.

Each fragment will run you 25,000 Glimmer a piece so you can only buy 10 fragments with a max wallet. Since each subclass has around 15 to 20 fragments to pick from, you will need to make at least one or two trips to Ikora for each subclass.

Luckily, you can easily farm glimmer while farming for anything else in Destiny 2, like Ascendant Shards. So just playing the game will over time unlock all of your subclass powers and abilities.
