How to keep warm in Zelda Tears of the Kingdom

Link starts out empty handed on the Great Sky Island, the first open area of Tears of the Kingdom. Without even a shirt to his name, he’ll have to quickly gather materials to stay nice and cozy once he reaches the icy cliffs on the island where the cold weather can kill him.

The best way to do this is to gather up the spicy peppers that are around the area and cook them up in a cooking pot with other ingredients to create a dish with the cold resistance effect. Here are some easy food recipes to create warming food with other ingredients that can be found on the Great Sky Island:

  • Pepper Seafood, using spicy pepper and ancient arowana
  • Spicy Fruit and Mushroom Mix, using spicy pepper and any mushroom

These are easy recipes to whip up on the Great Sky Island so you’ll stay warm to explore the cliffs on the lower right corner of the map.

Link can always sit near a fire to keep himself warm, but he will be stuck in one place. You can strike flint with a weapon next to wood to start a fire. Once Link has finished the Gutanbac Shrine though, he can travel upwards to the large hollow tree on the top of the mountain, where a chest can be found just inside the entrance. Inside this chest are the Archaic Warm Greaves that Link can equip. This armor will grant Link more cold resistance without having to eat any food, so he can run around the icy cliffs without freezing to death.

These tricks will work anywhere in Hyrule, so see what other recipes you can cook up to give Link longer lasting cold resistance!
