Ray tracing is a beautiful thing, literally, but boy does it eat system resources. If you don’t have a powerful GPU, or one with a lot of dedicated RT cores (Ray tracing cores) then running with this option can become difficult for your hardware.

So, here’s how to turn it off, and hopefully boost your FPS.

How to turn off Ray tracing in Hogwarts Legacy

Turning off Ray tracing in Hogwarts Legacy is pretty simple, and can be done at any point during the gameplay cycle.

All you need to do is navigate to the settings inside Hogwarts Legacy. To do this, simply tap “ESC” whilst playing the game. Or if you’re in the menu before gameplay, just “Right-click

That’s all there is to it, if you want Ray tracing enabled, but want to tweak the settings, you can scroll down further past the “Ray tracing reflections” option and customize the ray tracing settings.

Does turning off Ray tracing in Hogwarts Legacy increase performance?

Yes, turning off Ray tracing or RTX in any game can massively increase performance if you’re having some FPS issues. It’s different for every game, but on average you can see a 20% – 50% increase in performance when turning off Ray tracing. This is hardware dependant, however, and also varies from game to game. But there are significant performance gains to be had when turning off Ray Tracing in Hogwarts Legacy.

This does have an effect on the quality of the visuals, but only within the reflections. As the game will revert back to the standard method of rendering reflections (Screen space reflections) meaning only parts that are currently on screen can be reflected. Anything off-screen is de-rendered.

Does disabling Ray tracing in Hogwarts Legacy affect gameplay?

No, don’t worry, every swish and flick of the Hogwarts Legacy story will be exactly the same, regardless of the Ray tracing settings. Although, the effects may look a little less cool with Ray tracing disabled.
