Just like in Breath of the Wild, The Legend of Zelda: Teats of the Kingdom is filled with various swords, axes, spears, bows, shields, and more for you to use. These weapons are, unfortunately, affected by weapon durability. This means that they will eventually break. Luckily, you can reinforce them and make them last longer.

If you want your weapons to be stronger in Tears of the Kingdom, you will need to upgrade them. This can only be done in specific ways though. This guide will show you how to upgrade weapons in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

How to increase weapon durability in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

You can increase your weapon durabilities through the Fuse ability. For instance, combining a strong weapon with a diamond or other gemstone will increase the weapon’s durability as well as make it deal better damage in combat. Too bad this won’t work on the Master Sword.

Just like in the previous Nintendo Switch Zelda title, your weapons will degrade in Tears of the Kingdom. While this is unfortunate, it makes it so you will carry a lot of weapons in your inventory. In the early game, this weapon durability system will be a bit annoying, but there is a way to make your weapons better; the Fuse ability.

Pay attention to the weapons you pick up in TotK. Since Demon King Ganon has returned, many weapons have been afflicted with a status called Gloom. Combining a weapon with one affected by Gloom will hurt the weapon’s durability.

How to apply elemental weapon upgrades in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

Another form of upgrade using the Fuse ability is elemental upgrades. You can combine items with your weapons and shield to allow them to deal additional fire, thunder, or cold damage. You can even apply these effects to your arrows to hit enemies from a distance.

For instance, you will have plenty of Zonai weapons throughout the game. Combining a Zonai weapon with a fire fruit will deal additional damage. Be sure to also increase your inventory slots as you progress through the game so you can carry more weapons. These effects can be applied to shields in some cases as well.
