Valve did its best to break the internet yesterday, announcing Counter Strike 2 is coming this summer. Most in the community will of been nonplussed by the tweets, however, it is still very exciting to not only know we are getting a significant overhaul but have the possibility to test it right now.

The Counter Strike 2 limited test has gone out to a number of players, randomly selected. There were some criteria for who gets picked, which is mostly down to the trust factor, unlucky keyboard warriors.

Is Counter Strike 2 a new game?

No, Counter Strike 2 is not going to be a brand new game in the same sense CSGO was, it is in fact a free update for Global Offensive.

The new update isn’t just some seasonal patch, it is completely overhauling several areas of the game.

We are talking about gameplay changes, map updates, and system changes.

Smokes

Smokes are being completely redone and are now going to be volumetric objects that interact with the environment. they look unreal, in fact, they look like the best smoke system we have ever seen in a game.

The smokes have the ability to interact with objects around it, meaning they fill spaces naturally but also bullets and grenades can dissipate a smoke, pushing a hole through it given a player a line of sight. The new smokes are also the exact same for everyone in the server, meaning no more exploits or one-ways to take advantage of.

The smokes also react to light in Counter Strike 2, making them look incredibly realistic.

Tick Rate

While those who play Faceit on the wonderfully smooth 128 Tick servers have little to complain about, everyone else was slogging it out on 64 Tick.

Now developers claim Tick rate no longer matters and “What you see is what you get”.

This new system overhaul now adds a sub-tick update to the server, giving it the exact instant that motion starts, a shot is fired, or a ‘nade is thrown.

This means that regardless of tick rate, CS2 will be super-responsive and more consistent.

Aesthetics

One of the bigger updates is going to be in the shoot shooty bang bang world itself, that’s right, the maps will look cleaner, brighter, and better than ever before.

The existing maps have been rebuilt from the ground up to fully take advantage of the new engine and all its delights.

The lighting now includes physically based rendering, making it look super realistic, with reflections.

This update will also make the weapons, skins, and operators look even better too.

In fact, all your new items will shine brightly in the new light, making all that cash you spend on cases more worth it?

High definition visual effects

The visual in-game effects are having a massive overhaul in CS2, making explosions, fire, smoke, muzzle flashes, and GORE all look incredible.

When we say gore we just mean blood splatter and spray, but from what we have seen already, it looks amazing,g

The UI also looks sharp, with everything from the console menu to the main menu looking very sleek.
