During the time of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, the main focus was on the Shiekah Slate. Every Zelda game has its gimmicks whether that is sailing around the world or turning into a wolf. Since The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a sequel, does that change things?

The Sheikah Slate in BotW was an all-purpose tool that allowed you to use special abilities like manipulating objects. With it, you were able to help Hyrule by defeating Ganondorf. Now, there seems to be a new gimmick. Is the Sheikah Slate in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

Does the Sheikah Slate appear in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom?

At the start of Breath of the Wild, you picked up the Sheikah Slate and immediately went on your way to be the hero of the new game. Later on, you were accompanied by the Master Sword and the Hylian Shield as you went on to rescue Princess Zelda.

Despite there being multiple trailers for Tears of the Kingdom, it looks like the Sheikah Slate is nowhere to be found and is instead replaced by the Ultrahand. That’s right, there is a new tool in TotK that looks like armor coating Link’s arm. Along with the Ultrahand, Tears of the Kingdom is introducing other new items to the game like sky islands and a more comprehensible plot.

This strange device is new to the series and seems to be what will accompany you throughout the game as you take on the reincarnation of Calamity Ganon. Nintendo loves to keep changing up the style for each Zelda game and Tears of the Kingdom is no exception.

It is hard to say completely that the Sheikah Slate won’t be in the game, but it looks like it is gone. Since it is a big open world, maybe there will be easter eggs for the Sheikah Slate hidden within the ruins. At least Hyrule Castle is still in the game along with the cool glowing sword arm.
