If you came for the short answer, then yes, Wallpaper Engine is worth it but here is why.

Wallpaper Engine was released way back in November 2018 and since became one of the most popular ‘games’ on Steam.

Wallpaper Engine has had some of the best reviews on the platform, with 98% of all reviews being overwhelmingly positive. Those who have already bought the software tend to offer the advice ‘just buy it‘.

Why is Wallpaper Engine worth it & how much does it cost?

Wallpaper Engine costs around $4 but we do see the occasional sale from time to time which could virtually make it cost next to nothing.

The only drawback of Wallpaper Engine is that you need to obviously open the program to get the Wallpaper.

Not really a drawback though and when you consider the thousands of wallpapers to choose from, you soon get hooked into customizing the background of your desktop.

Overall the software is largely considered the best wallpaper program you can buy and here is why:

  • You can bring your desktop wallpapers alive with real-time graphics, videos, applications, or websites.
  • Wallpaper Engine lets you use animated screensavers while you are away from your computer.
  • You can personalize those animated wallpapers with your favorite colors.
  • Use interactive wallpapers that can be controlled with your mouse.
  • Many aspect ratios and native resolutions are supported including 16:9, 21:9, 16:10, and 4:3.
  • Multi-monitor environments are supported.
  • Wallpapers will pause while playing games to save performance.
  • Create your own animated wallpapers in the Wallpaper Engine Editor.
  • Animate new live wallpapers from basic images or import HTML or video files for the wallpaper.
  • Use the Steam Workshop to share and download wallpapers for free.
  • Wallpaper Engine can be used at the same time as any other Steam game or application.
  • Supported video formats: mp4, WebM, AVI, M4V, MOV, WMV (for local files, Workshop only allows mp4).
  • Use the free Android companion app to take your favorite scene and video wallpapers on the go.
  • Support for Razer Chroma and Corsair iCUE.

What is Wallpaper Engine?

Wallpaper Engine is software, not a game, released back in 2018 that lets you use live wallpapers on your Windows desktop.

You can select wallpapers from a wide variety of options, including 2D/ 3D animations, websites, videos, and even certain applications.

The benefits do not stop there, you can even customize/ create your own personal wallpapers and share them on the Steam workshop for friends and strangers alike to enjoy.

Wallpaper Engine wallpapers can even be transferred to your mobile as long as it is Android and you install the companion app.

You may think that you have been able to do this sort of thing for years on windows and you would be right, however, not everyone has the skills to do so and the old methods of using WMP uses up a lot of CPU power.

Wallpaper Engine is by far the best program available to truly customize your desktop and is absolutely worth the measly $4.
