Since the release date of Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom has been pushed back slightly, we now have more time to ponder on some of the unanswered questions from the various trailers released so far. Questions like where in the timelines does this game take place?

Knowing if Zelda TOTK is a sequel to Breath of the Wild or not really helps to clarify the story and let players know what knowledge they need to have to go into this. Let’s go over if Zelda TOTK is a sequel to Breath of the Wild.

Is Zelda TOTK A Sequel To Breath Of The Wild?

From what we have managed to glean from the story so far, we can tell that Zelda TOTK takes place after the ending of Breath of the Wild, thus making it a sequel. Although we don’t know much about the story of the game, there are a few key points that can help us infer this information.

Since we have seen this game features both Princess Zelda and Link, we know this takes place sometime before or after the conclusion of Breath of the Wild. But since there seems to be a darker tone this time around it leads most players to believe that it takes place after the end of BOTW.

We have this confirmed later thanks to a newly released trailer that shows the corpse of Ganon thus confirming this is after BOTW. However, we don’t know if it will be the same Hyrule Kingdom as before as the game seems to have much more sky-oriented travel.

This means that there is no way to tell how much of Breath of the Wild will be carried over into Tears of the Kingdom since the land seems to have changed so much. Truly, we don’t know much more than this story-wise about the game.

Nintendo has been very secretive about the story so far as to not spoil any of it and this is leading many players to get excited at the mystery we are about to be presented.
