Will Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom have Multiplayer?

Throughout most of the franchise history, Legend of Zelda games has primarily been a single-player experience. This has not stopped fans from wanting the ability to be the hero of Hyrule together with friends.
Now with Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on the horizon, we have two possibly playable characters which have sparked hope in the hearts of fans. Let’s answer the question of if Zelda TOTK has multiplayer.
Does Zelda TOTK Have a Multiplayer Mode?
Despite Zelda being a more prominent character in this new story, we have received confirmation that there will be no multiplayer mode on launch for Zelda TOTK. This whole question seems to have stemmed from a supposed leak of the instruction booklet of TOTK.
In a Reditt post, someone has taken a picture of a booklet containing information about TOTK and draws attention to the Nintendo Online functionality mark on the page. To some, this gave hope that there could be online play in some form. However, the most likely answer is the game will feature cloud saving as most other Nintendo games do.
There are other fan theories about what the online functionality could add to TOTK. Some fans speculate there will be a way to leave messages behind or send other players to message across via the online service.
This would not be a first for the franchise as Tingle’s Bottles were added to the Wind Waker HD Collection. These bottles allowed players to send screenshots and messages to other players.
While this does dash the hopes of multiplayer upon release, there is still a chance that a future DLC for TOTK could add in some form of multiplayer. While there currently is no information about an expansion pass for TOTK, it could come sometime down the line.
The only information we have about different versions of TOTK so far is the collector’s edition. Since this is currently not available for purchase, the contents could change if an expansion pass is added to the game.
