Due to the nature of MMORPG gameplay, it’s not uncommon for open world multiplayers to have a longer AFK timer than other games. As such, the Lost Ark AFK timer can be increased to an hour if needed. Thankfully for some, though, it’s still set as 15 minutes as standard, perhaps in a bid to keep those massive lobby queues to a minimum.

Change Lost Ark LA AFK timer

If you actually manage to get into Lost Ark and wish to change your AFK timer, then head into the settings menu, and go to Controls and Display. From here, you’ll see an option to change your AFK Settings to 15 minutes, 30 minutes or the maximum of 60 minutes.

  • Go to Settings
  • Head down to Gameplay
  • Then select Controls and Display
  • Locate AFK Settings
  • Change to 15m, 30m, or 60m

It’s pretty simple to make the change, and is definitely worthwhile once you finally get online and are planning a lengthy session. Given how long it can take to get back into the game once you log off at the moment due to extensive wait times on most servers, if you simply need to pop out for some milk or jump in the shower, this extended timer gives you a chance to do just that.

Is AFKing in Lost Ark unfair at the moment?

Having the AFK timer only able to be changed to a maximum of one hour does at least mean that players are unable to really take advantage of the option. It seems like a relatively sensible middle ground when so many players are waiting in incredibly long server queues, while there could be Lost Ark AFK players in-game, not actually playing, and taking up valuable server space.

Having said that, of course some players have found a workaround and are capitalising on the auto-run feature to keep their spot in-game. Using auto-run mods (or even the classic elastic band and controller), players can keep their character moving to trick the AFK timer. And ensure they don’t get booted while AFK. It seems to be unknown at present just how intelligent the Smilegate AFK detection is, as some detection systems will even kick those using an auto-run mod. However, some users on Reddit have confirmed they have seen players clearly making the most of this workaround.
