Mario Kart 8 Deluxe may have been around for 8 years, but there are more content waves coming – the only question has been when. Until now.

After what seems like an eternity, Nintendo has confirmed the next wave of tracks, eight of them, will come on August 4th – that’s next week!

Mario Kart Wave 2 latest news

Despite a bit of a wait, rumours are circling that there is a wave 2 on the horizon, so the next batch of content isn’t far away.

Most recently, @NinStatusBot has highlighted maintenance happened in the game – taking place on July 28. While some speculated this was a sign wave 2 was coming, we were left disappointed as there was no wave 2 in sight.

It now seems very unlikely we will see wave 2 this week as Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is out tomorrow – which would see two big Switch games fight against each other if Mario Kart drop more tracks.

One gamer on the Mario Kart Reddit Megathread has calculated there could be concerns over the release cadence.

They cite that if the amount of time between Mario Kart Wave 1 and the inbound Wave 2 continues this trend between subsequent waves, there will not be enough of a runway to hit the end in 2024 release target.

Mario Kart 8 wave 2 DLC release date prediction

Earlier in July, Twitter user @teebeeYT shared a photo of what appeared to be a Mario Kart 8 Deluxe’s Booster Course Pass, which was sent to GameStop employees.

This indicates wave 2 could well be around the corner, and is rumored to have the following tracks:

  • New York Minute (Mario Kart Tour)
  • Sydney Sprint (Mario Kart Tour)
  • LA Laps (Mario Kart Tour)
  • Koopa Cape (Mario Kart Wii)
  • Maple Treeway (Mario Kart Wii)
  • Mario Circuit (Super Mario Kart)
  • Vanilla Lake (Super Mario Kart)
  • Rainbow Road (Mario Kart 7)

A July release date makes sense as since the DLC will end in 2024, that would mean a wave every four months.

Back in March, dataminers claimed to find screenshots detailing what appeared to be unannounced tracks for the game – which is in line with the above rumours.

A similar banner advertisement hinted the reveal of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter pass waves, so things could be looking hopeful.

Still, that hasn’t stopped gamers on the Mario Kart Reddit postulating about when they think the next wave will drop – and it’s clear some just want to see the wave now.

One wrote: “Nintendo’s the sort of company to say during wave 1 “We’re releasing by the end in 2024” and then on the last 5 days in 2024 release the 5 last waves consecutively.”

Another simply wrote: “I’ve done the math. If every DLC wave was released perfectly evenly up until NYE 2023, they would have approximately 100 or so days between them. However, it’s been almost three weeks between said predicted timeframe and now. (For reference, it would have been about the 5th this month.)

Another added: “I am 100% convinced it’s coming in August. It’s Mario Kart’s 30th anniversary month, they gotta do SOMETHING for it.”

We’d agree with them here. The original game was released on August 27 – and it would make a ton of sense if the second wave landed on that time. It’s also a natural landmrk where gamers will be talking about the game, so would be a great chance for Nintendo to ride those waves.
