Yes, we are still playing Minecraft. Yes, we love it as much as we ever did, and yes, WePC’s Minecraft gaming hub is about to start growing in line with how much attention one of the best games of all time fully deserves.

So if there are certain things you need to know, or even that you have just forgotten if you are coming back to the game, you will be able to find what you need right here.

What is Quick Charge in Minecraft?

Quick Charge is an enchantment that allows you to quickly reload a weapon and shoot more quickly, in this instance a crossbow – something that is super useful in hairy situations. Quick Charge will reduce the reload time of the crossbow with arrows (or fireworks) from the usual 1.25 seconds down to an amazing half a second at the top enchantment level.

The loading time reduces by 0.25 seconds over the regular loading time for each usage of the enchantment level up to a maximum of three.

Therefore using some quick Minecraft Maths we get:

  • Unenchanted: 1.25 seconds
  • Level 1: 1 second
  • Level 2: 0.75 seconds
  • Level 3: 0.5 seconds

How to get Quick Charge in Minecraft

Quick Charge I and Quick Charge II can be obtained through loot drops in dungeons. You might also find them in strongholds. They can also be obtained using an enchanting table and using the recipe or by fishing.

Quick Charge III on the other hand takes a little more work and has to be found by trading with a librarian villager in a village. Finding it out in the wild requires a little more luck and searching in chests in desert pyramids or an old abandoned mineshaft.

How to use Quick Charge enchantment in Minecraft

Once your crossbow has been enchanted, all you need to do is simply operate it as normal. The crossbow will magically glow to highlight it contains an enchantment and from then on you can just enjoy the fruits of reloading much quicker than you previously could.

Minecraft Quick Charge Max Level

The maximum you can Quick Charge your crossbow up to is Level 3.

Can you quick charge a bow in Minecraft?

We are afraid not. The Quick Charge enchantment only works in speeding up loading on a crossbow. Your arrow dexterity will not be affected by this little magic trickery.

Is Quick Charge a good enchantment in Minecraft?

Quick Charge can be invaluable if you are a fan of using the crossbow. Even though we are talking in fractions of a second, the ability to get shots off more quickly can be the difference between life and death in Survival mode, and even the difference between a good hunter and a bad one. The amount of time you can save with this enchantment is actually more than you might realise in a tight situation.

Can you put Quick Charge and Piercing on a crossbow?

Enchantments for the crossbow are mutually exclusive we are afraid. So you can only enchant your crossbow with either Quick Charge (up to Level III), Piercing (up to level IV), or Multishot (Level I).

Minecraft Quick Charge Console Commands

If you want to speed things up even further and do not want to be bothered with the faff of finding the enchants yourself or fiddling around with the crafting table, you can always head into the Minecraft console with a cheeky press of the / key and, with a crossbow in hand, enchant it with the following commands and game mods.

/enchant @p quick_charge 1
/enchant @p quick_charge 2
/enchant @p quick_charge 3

If you would rather enchant in your own time rather than adding it directly to the crossbow, you can simply add an enchanted book to your inventory with the following command.

/give @p enchanted_book{StoredEnchantments:[{id:quick_charge,lvl:1}]} 1

When was Quick Charge added to Minecraft?

Quick Charge came to the Java edition of Minecraft in version 1.14 (18w43a) and was added to the Bedrock Edition in beta 1.8.0.10
