Bane of Arthropods is an enchantment that affects all mobs that are classified under the arthropods category. It affects spiders, cave spiders, bees, ender mites, and silverfish among other enemies. The enchantment goes up to five stages with each stage adding additional damage. Players who have access to the enchantment on their weapons will have an easy time dealing with enemies that are considered Arthropods.
How Does Bane of Arthropods Work in Minecraft?
The enchantment at the base level adds 2.5 extra damage per hit to your weapons. Each time you level up the enchantment, you will get an additional 1.25 hearts worth of damage. In addition to the bonus damage also get Slowness IV’s effect is applied to enemies. The duration of the slow effect is random, but if you use a fast-hitting weapon, you should be able to apply the slow effect on enemies consistently. At level one, the slow effect can be applied for a maximum of 1.5 seconds and it goes up by 0.5 seconds with each stage.
Should You Use Bane of Arthropods in Minecraft?
While the enchantment sounds great on paper it is very situational. There are very few enemies that get classified as Arthropods and the enchantment is also incompatible with Sharpness and Smite, which is a major downside. Players can use only one of the three and the effects of the three cannot be stacked.
We recommend using Sharpness instead because it is a lot more versatile. You can use it against all enemies and gain benefits. While the damage bonus offered by Bane of Arthropods is higher, it will not work against most enemies in Minecraft. The Bane enchantment is not worth using unless you plan on exclusively fighting against Arthropods for a significant amount of time. If you don’t have Smite or Sharpness, only then should you consider using Bane of Arthropods.
