The answer is unfortunately no. NBA 2K23 did not add cross-platform play into their latest game, and as a result, fans will not be able to play with friends on different console generations.

In addition, NBA 2K23 has not made any announcements clarifying whether cross-platform play will be added into the game at a later date. In fact, there’s no indication that cross-play will be a reality in the next game either, at least not yet anyway.

The only AAA sports games franchises that will introduce cross-platform play is that of FIFA 23 and NHL 23 for their Hockey Ultimate Team (HUT). This is good news for cross-platform play moving forward because more and more sports games will look to integrate it following the footsteps of both FIFA 23 and NHL 23.

Does NBA 2K23 allow cross-progression?

The one thing that NBA 2K23 did incorporate into their new game, is that of cross-progression and a shared VC wallet in their MyTEAM mode. What this translates to is that fans can now maintain their progression and VC over two different consoles without having to start from scratch.

Whether it’s MyTEAM points, cards, tokens, or progress as a whole, fans that own two different consoles from the same console family will have all their progress shared on both systems. This applies for your VC coin as well, which will remain the same across both consoles.

Remember, this is only applicable to those that own a PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 or a Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
