September 23, 2021 Nintendo Direct update: Having just watched the Nintendo Direct event live, we now know the final Super Smash Bros Ultimate character reveal will be happening on October 5, 2021.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate came out on December 7, 2018 for the Nintendo Switch and the crossover fighting game was immediately popular. As of Nintendo’s most recent financial report, the game has sold 24.77 million copies to date. With that news, it should come as no surprise that Kyoto-based video game giant Nintendo would support the title with post-launch content updates in the form of the Super Smash Bros Fighters Pass characters.

Each Super Smash Bros Fighters Pass has been released piecemeal, with focus and marketing put on each new fighter being added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Each Smash character release date is a separate and celebrated event with a lot of build up, but they can also be bought as part of a bundle if you don’t want to personally keep track of it.

The Super Smash Bros Fighters Pass idea was so successful for everybody involved, that Nintendo and Bandai Namco have decided to do a second one, appropriately called Super Smash Bros Fighters Pass 2. So far, five of the six Fighters Pass 2 characters have released.

When is the final Super Smash Bros. character release date?

We don’t currently have a firm release date for the final Super Smash Bros. Ultimate character, but Masahiro Sakurai has confirmed in a Nintendo Direct that we should see them come out before the end of 2021.

They’re going to announce the final Smash character release date in a video presentation called the “Final Mr. Sakurai Presents for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate” on October 5, 2021.

Wondering who the next Super Smash Bros. character could be? Only Nintendo, Masahiro Sakurai and his team at Bandai Namco really know. We’re hoping for Dr. Robotnik from Sonic the Hedgehog. It’s his 30th anniversary this year too! Want to know who we think has a chance of being the final character? Then you’ll want to read this.
