Amazon Games’ New World may be a “classless” game, but many people use RPG fantasy archetypes as inspiration for their builds. One of the popular archetypes in all RPG titles is a Mage. A New World mage build will require a Fire Staff, as that is by far the strongest magical weapon for dealing damage. However, there are a few variations on the mage style depending on your playstyle. If you want a few varying mage builds, we have you covered on the best New World Fire Staff builds.

New World Fire Staff Build for PvE – The Frostfire Mage

Meteor Shower

One potential New World Fire Staff build is a full fire mage build. A full New World fire mage build is really good if you are in a coordinated group. Your tank is a key to making this work, as they’ll need to position enemies in the burning ring of fire your Fireball skill leaves behind. Another important reason why teamwork is essential is the coordination needed for your Meteor spell. Channelling Meteor Shower hurls meteors from the sky, each landing within the target zone. The channel can last up to six seconds and has an 18-second cooldown. It means that if you do use it you need to properly coordinate it to make it worth your while. Not to mention the bonus 20% weapon damage per second while enemies remain in the circle, offering a potential 120% weapon damage just from standing in the Meteor Shower zone for six seconds never mind the 34% weapon damage per meteor. However, it requires close coordination to efficiently use the ability. If you feel you can coordinate your PvE group, this might be a great build for you.

If you’re planning on going solo then we recommend exchanging Meteor for Incinerate in the Pyromancy tree. Incinerate is a skill that deals similar damage to Pillar of Flame, but it has a knockback. If you find yourself getting swarmed by hostiles, the knockback followed by a dodge provides all the escape you need. When you gain distance from your foes, your Fireball and Pillar of Flame have all the single and multi-target damage you need to roast the baddies.

New World Ice Gauntlet – Second Weapon

No build in New World is complete without a second weapon. Any New World mage build naturally benefits a lot from Ice Gauntlet. In PvE you will play the Ice Tempest specialization. The Ice Tempest offers quite a few frost themed spells that deal great single and multi-target damage. Take the Ice Spikes skill for example. It is much more forgiving with skill placement allowing the user to press the large spike earlier. The large spike pushes back enemies it hits, making for a nice damage and CC tool that is much more user friendly. Wind Chill is another Ice Tempest skill that causes pushback on multiple affected targets. These two skills offer all you need to make sure the enemies stay as far away from you as possible.

Finally, the Ice Storm is a point and click slowing zone that deals moderate damage. You could potentially use this skill when enemies are pushed back and need slowing. You can then switch to the Fire Staff and unleash your higher damage skills to ensure the enemies feel the wrath of the Frostfire Mage.

As for your armor, Light armor is the best for a PvE New World Mage build, because it provides a 20% damage bonus. Considering the build gains bonus critical strikes and Empower buffs from Fire Mage talents, the Light armor bonus skyrockets the build’s damage. This rounds out the most basic of a New World fire mage build, allowing you to pump out damage, which is beneficial for both PvE and PvP.

New World Mage Build for PvP

If you plan on playing a mage in New World’s PvP modes, then you’ll need vastly different skills. The Fire Staff becomes a Pyrmonacer build, requiring you to go deep Pyromancer. The reason why is because you’ll lose your critical strike passives and mana less heavy attacks. The ultimate in Pyromancer increases mana regeneration by 400% after not using a Fire Staff skill for six seconds. It is sad to lose all that damage, but it is needed for knockback and escape. You’ll more than likely use a mixture of light and heavy attacks and powerful skills to nuke opponents when they get closer to your skills range. Therefore, your three skills are Burnout, Incinerate and Fire Ball. We also recommend wearing Medium armor for the added defensive stats and 10% bonus CC effects.

Entomb Ice Gauntlet

Like the PvE build, you’ll need to use the Ice Gauntlet once again. Only this time you want the Builder specialization, as Entomb provides mana while Entombed. It is also a very good defensive cooldown, making you immune while the skill persists. One other skill you want is Ice Pylon, as it is an annoying ‘pet’ that automatically fires ice missiles that slow opponents. You can then opt for either Ice Shower or Ice Storm to slow enemies movement speed. The major difference between the two spells is Ice Storm’s range and slows caught in its radius. However, Ice Storm spawns directly in front of the caster with its shards applying Frostbite, preventing dodges. This is the safest and most consistent New World mage build for PvP, which is why we highly recommended it.

Light Armor PvP Mage Build

While we don’t recommend this build for PvP, you can still opt for Light Armor build. It is harder to pull off because of the risk, but if you can make it work then good on you. You’ll basically want to use the solo content version of the Frostfire Mage solo build outlined in the PvE heading. The idea is to benefit as much from Empower, critical strike and damage with your Fireball and Pillar of Flame fully upgraded. The third skill is either Inceinirate or Burn Out depending on preference.

Once again, the Ice Gauntlet is a key to survival. You’ll need to take exactly the same skills and talents as the other New World Mage PvE mage build. That way you can ensure you have all the slowing capabilities to keep yourself alive, allowing you breathing room to cast heavy attacks from your Fire Staff. The combination of both elements will have you hitting targets from afar and bursting down your opposition, hence why this is a New World Fire Staff build worth considering for faction wars.

New World Battle Mage Build

Flamethrower Fire Staff

A Fire Staff battlemage build is an interesting spin on the Fire Staff. The only skill missing so far in this guide is the Flamethrower skill. Unfortunately, the Flamethrower doesn’t exactly fit a traditional ranged mage character. But if you’re going melee anyway, the Flamethrower could do some incredible damage. You’ll want to take Burnout as it is a firey dash that can get you into combat, followed by any other skill of your choice.

The secondary weapon will be any two-handed melee weapon of your preference. The Axe has a charge ability and Reap, which pulls enemies in range back to you. Alternatively, you can always leap on a target with a Warhammer and stun them with your skills to ensure the flamethrower connects.

This concludes or New World Maghe build list. If you found a build you like the look of, feel free to let us know. Perhaps we missed the mark, after all, it is beta and there is still room for us all to improve. Either way, if you like what you see, we have even more builds and class ideas in our New World guide section.
