With a new season on the way, Overwatch 2 will likely see a load of new players join the player base, and so there’s some lingo you may need to catch up on.
One such term is ‘MIT’. So, what does it stand for in Overwatch and more importantly, is it worth understanding? Here’s everything you need to know.
What does MIT mean in Overwatch 2
MIT in the scoreboard stands for ‘Damage Mitigated’ which refers to the damage you would have taken if you had not blocked it with a shield or barrier.
This helps protect Ultimate ability charging and, more importantly, stops you from absorbing all of the hits. It’s also an indicator of how much damage you have ‘blocked’ from your team – which, depending on what role you’re playing, can be used to infer how well you played.

Tank players are expected to have high levels of MIT as they are in the line of fire. This means the likes of Reinhardt, Sigma, and Brigitte are prime selections for those wanting to accrue MIT due to their shielding abilities, however Support roles will also rack some up.
How to get more MIT in Overwatch 2?
The fastest way to increase your MIT score is selecting Tank roles, due to their shielding ability. However, as mentioned above, Support roles will also reward you some MIT. You may also want to use the following character barriers:
- Brigitte
- Winston
- Reinhardt
- Orisa
- Symmetra
- Sigma
Is MIT important in Overwatch 2?
Yes… but it all depends on the role. A higher MIT score indicates a lot of damage blocked, so this is vital if you’re a Tank as you’re essentially taking the hits for your team and weaker characters.
If you’re playing as a Tank or Support role and have a low MIT score, you may not be playing the role effectively or providing the right kind of support for your team – so it’s always good to go in and evaluate performance on the scoreboard after every match.
