Overwatch is easily one of the most successful character-based shooters ever released. Since it came out in 2016 it has seen consistently high player numbers, as well as new heroes and updates to keep the game feeling fresh for the huge fanbase that still plays the title to this day. With the title available on so many different platforms, many players have wondered whether or not that game supports crossplay or not. The long and short of it is yes, you can totally play with your friends on different platforms, but it’s not as simple as just starting a match. Since June 2021, the servers have been merged, but there are a few hoops you’ll need to jump through to play with your friends across the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4, and PC versions. Below, we’ll go over how it all works, and exactly what you’ll need to do to enjoy crossplay.

Yes, Overwatch supports crossplay across all 4 different versions of the game. Back in 2018, Blizzard revealed that they were in talks to merge the Xbox and PlayStation versions of the game, but nothing came of it back then. Luckily, in June of 2021, it was announced that the servers for all versions of the games had finally been merged. With the update, the option to sign into Battle.net was added to every version of the game, making crossplay possible.
How to Play Overwatch Cross Platform
While crossplay has been available for half a year already, there is a hurdle you’ll need to clear to get it working. If you’re playing on PC, you’re already signed into your Battle.net account. However, if you’re playing on a console, the only way to enable crossplay is to make sure that you sign into your Battle.net account when you launch the game. Then, it’s simply a case of the normal matchmaking process you’re used to.
Does Overwatch Have Cross Save/ Cross Progression?
Unfortunately, while we can finally enjoy crossplay, Blizzard has not made it possible to enjoy cross progression. If you unlock cosmetics in the PC version, you’ll only be able to use them in that version. There’s no way of merging your cosmetics outside of the version you unlocked them on.
