The legendary creature haunts the land of Hisui and it falls into your lap to help put an end to its terrible deeds that are left vague enough to mean either murder or just giving nightmares to people. I’m not sure, but all I know is it’s a bit of a punch in the gut if you never played Diamond and Pearl’s remakes.

After finishing the game (seeing the credits), you’ll be given the quest via the Professor’s blackboard to investigate an area that is being pestered by a dark shadow. As it turns out, Darkrai has taken a liking to vaguely doing things to the people around the area and it must be stopped before it gets out of hand.

This will only occur if you have to save data of Brilliant Diamond or Shining Pearl on your Switch and that’s the kicker. If you don’t have them, you’ll have to buy and start them up until you can save, then go back and get the quest.

Head to the market and get yourself a bunch of Ultra Balls and Wing Balls (or the step-up) and get ready to throw them.

Darkrai will be immediately on the attack but can be caught during this sequence if you’re really lucky. As he dips between his voids, he’ll always face inwards towards the middle of the circle, pretty much directly at you. Run behind these voids and throw a ball at him to catch him off guard.

If this isn’t working, throw a Pokemon to get into battle and weaken him down to land the winning catch.

Darkrai is a dark type Pokemon, pretty powerful and can be an absolute killer in one of the later bosses in the game as both a strong frontman for healing or as your go-to killer. You’ll catch it at level 70.
