Pokemon Legends: Arecus has introduced a bunch of new aspects for the franchise and whether you like them or not, Game Freak is certainly trying to breathe new life into a somewhat stale game series.

One such introduction is Alpha Pokemon, which roam free in the Hisui region, and are a force to be reckoned with. These Pokemon don’t just roll over and accept that they’re going to be caught, they will try everything in their power to not let you advance.

The question is, though, are you able to actually catch these Alpha Pokemon? We answer that and more below.

Can you catch Alpha Pokemon?

As Alpha Pokemon are extremely strong variants that will fight you till the death, they’d certainly be handy to have in your own team, right? Well, we’re happy to report that you can, in fact, catch Alpha Pokemon.

This is no mean feat, however, and requires a bit of skill to get the job done. Let’s get into how to get it right.

How to catch Alpha Pokemon

You know what they are, you know you can catch them but how do actually secure those Alpha Pokemon to create a Pokemon Trainer’s dream party?

Alpha Pokemon can be caught like any other Pokemon that you can encounter in the wild but unfortunately, they’re much more likely to wriggle out of that Poke Ball. To give yourself the best possible chance at guaranteeing that Alpha Pokemon catch, you need to do some item preparation.

First, craft some Heavy Balls. These allow for a better catch rate when used on unsuspecting Pokemon. Next, ensure you either have Oran Berries or if you know the Pokemon’s preferred food, you can use that also for increased effect.

After double-checking that you have these in your bag, the best strategy to employ is to sneak up to Alpha Pokemon from behind, either through crouching or using a Smoke Bomb, and throwing a Heavy Ball from behind. This will increase the catch rate dramatically and will hopefully allow you to secure that Alpha Pokemon with relative ease.

If you do fail, however, simply head back to Jubilife Village and this will reset the spawn of the Alpha Pokemon you’re after.
