Pokemon are all unique in their own right, differing in size, weight, and how strong they are in battle. While this is the case, each species does, unfortunately look the same for the most part, making it difficult to differentiate between which is your favorite go-to critter to send into battle. That’s where nicknames come in.

Being in the Pokemon games since their inception, nicknames have been a main staple for not only allowing you to tell the difference between multiple Pokemon of the main type, it also adds a little personal touch to your adventure

In Pokemon Legends: Arceus, the trend of nicknaming continues but how you assign these nicknames has changed, tripping Trainers up in the process. Below, we’re going to take you through where you find the nicknaming option so that you can add a bit of flair to your party.

How to give Pokemon nicknames in Pokemon Legends: Arceus

As previously mentioned, nicknaming Pokemon has changed in Legends: Arceus. There won’t be an option to assign a new name for caught Pokemon as you catch them. Instead, the nicknaming process starts after this, when the Pokemon are safe and secure in your party.

To start nicknaming your Pokemon, open up your bag and locate the specific Pokemon you want to nickname on the right hand side of your screen. Press A while hovering over your chosen Pokemon to bring up a secondary menu. Go down to the ‘Change Name’ option and hit A again to bring up the naming screen. Enter your desired nickname and hit the + button.

While the above method is a pretty straightforward process, without knowing where to look, you might become a little frustrated. Additionally, giving nicknames to your Pokemon can be done over and over again without the need for additional NPCs to be involved which makes it a little more streamlined and easy to make any corrections if you make a mistake.
