UPDATE: February 9th, 2022 — This shiny cloning bug may have been patched out in Pokémon Legends Arceus update 1.0.2, but we’re not 100% sure at this stage. Take a look at the full patch notes here.

A Pokémon Legends Arceus player has found a way to clone specific shinies, meaning you can gather plenty up to trade to your friends. You still have to be lucky enough to actually find the shiny in the first place, though, so take a look at our tips for increasing your chances if you need help. Disclaimer: We’re still not guaranteeing anything, particularly if your luck is anything as bad as ours.

How to clone Pokémon in Legends Arceus

According to a Tweet by Pokémon Legends Arceus fan Kattling, the method involves hiding in a cave once you have caught the shiny Pokémon once, and it should respawn in the same place. Thus, you also need to be in an area of the map with a cave nearby. And, again, in order to clone a shiny, of course you need to find one first. The technique does still work with any Pokémon… it’s just more valuable cloning a shiny.

Another catch is that this method only works with “hidden” Pokémon, i.e. Pokémon that spawn in ores, trees or chests. Of course you won’t know until you’ve encountered it, but if you are wanting to give this method a try, then it might be worth turning autosave off as standard, so you can go straight into the cloning process if you do encounter something you want to duplicate.

So, how do you do it? Well, here are the steps:

  • Turn off autosave
  • Trigger the Pokémon encounter (tree, ore, chest etc)
  • Manually save your game
  • Enter the cave and stay there for at least 30 minutes
  • Return to the tree/ore/chest, and the encounter will be available again

Here’s the original video from Kattling if you want to see the method in action.

Let us know if you get lucky and manage to clone a shiny Pokémon using this method!
