One of the lesser used HMs in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl is Defog. A Hidden Move that does as it says on the tin, so no surprise there. It’s kind of like Flash of days gone! Although the quality of the new gen remakes can be argued, whether they’re good or bad, one thing we can all agree on is that HMs no longer take up vital move slots for your Pokemon. You still can if you want to but not many of them are really worth it and have better alternatives.

But let’s quickly run you through where you can get Defog in Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.

Where to find Defog

You’ll be able to find it in The Great Marsh near Pastoria, the city near Veilstone. Once you enter the Marsh, speak with the trainer near the tram. There she’ll give you several TMs, one of them is Defog! So yeah, Defog is no longer a HM and is instead a TM!

But you’ll need to defeat Crasher Wake, the Gym leader, before you can use Defog from your Watch. Once you’re done with that, you can start to defog places to your heart’s content. No more mist or fog to obscure your path, instead you’ll clear things up and be in and out of places in no time.

Should your Pokemon learn Defog?

Short answer, no.

Long answer? Well… Defog only serves to remove Reflect, Safeguard and Barrier moves from enemy Pokemon which simply rarely ever shows up. You’re better off using a different move altogether…

Then again, those moves have been seen being used in the metagame though. So it’s not entirely detrimental to have it, if you’re planning on take your team online. Either way, it’s not the best move and is more story-useful.
