Just released to iOS and Android after notching up 9 million Nintendo Switch downloads is Pokemon Unite, a mobile MOBA which is rapidly shaping up to be one of the biggest handheld releases of the year. But did you know that Pokemon Unite is also available to download and play on PC? Well, not officially, but it’s relatively simple for keyboard warriors to have Pikachu, Snorlax, Zeraora, Blastoise, and the gang amassing Aeos Coins and Gems via their superior gaming machines. Here’s how to get Pokemon Unite up and running on your desk or laptop:
Download Bluestacks
First of all you need an Android emulator called Bluestacks. It’s free, reliable, and very easy to set up. Just go to Bluestacks website, download BlueStacksMicroInstaller, and install the latest version.
Install Bluestacks
When installation is complete Bluestacks will start automatically, taking you to a screen not unlike that of a new phone. You will need to log into your Google account before selecting the Play Store icon, but once you are logged in you can search for and download Pokemon Unite to your PC.
Download Pokemon Unite
If when you search for Pokemon Unite in the Google Play Store it does not appear, it means your phone is not compatible. Of course, you are not using a phone, but emulating one. All you need to do is change to a phone model that Pokemon Unite does support.
To do this:
- Select the MENU icon in the top right of the Bluestacks window, then select SETTINGS.
- Next, select DEVICE SETTINGS and choose a new DEVICE PROFILE.
- We found the Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra profile worked a treat, so try that one first.
- Now you should be able to locate Pokemon Unite and install it to your PC (currently pretending to be a phone, of course).
Playing Pokemon Unite PC
Once installed Pokemon Unite will be on your Home screen, just as it would be on your phone. Click the icon to start the game. You can then use your mouse to select your preferred language, agree to terms and conditions, set your age and or sign in with your Nintendo, Facebook, Google, or Pokemon Trainer Club accounts.
How to use a controller to play Pokemon Unite on PC
By default Bluestacks superimposes your selected control method on the screen, so that all the mouse and keyboard shortcuts are right before your eyes. If you plug in a controller, it will automatically be detected and those shortcuts will be displayed instead. To remove the on-screen keyboard/controller shortcuts, press SHIFT+CTRL+F6. To toggle full-screen mode press F11.
