One of the major announcements to come from February’s Pokémon Presents broadcast was the debut of a new generation of Pokémon in Pokémon GO. Gen 7’s Pokémon, from the Sun and Moon games, will start to appear in Pokémon GO’s Season of Alola from March 2022, kicking off three months of Alolan celebrations.

While the Pokémon fanbase may be buzzing about the announcement of two new Pokémon titles, Scarlet and Violet, there was still a bunch of other almost as exciting news from the Pokémon Presents stream on February 27th, 2022. While it wasn’t a hoped-for DLC announcement, there is a new gameplay update for Pokémon Legends: Arceus, available now. The stream also revealed details about in-game events for Pokémon Café Remix and Pokémon Masters EX to celebrate Pokémon Day 2022. Take a look at the full Pokémon Presents broadcast on YouTube.

Pokémon GO’s Season of Alola

As the Season of Heritage wraps up following February 26’s GO Tour event, we can move on from the onslaught of Pokémon we’ve seen more than enough of and welcome a bunch of new faces. Gen 7 is the Pokédex from the Sun and Moon games and anime, and is the next generation due in Pokémon GO. Arriving just in time for Summer (in the Northern Hemisphere), the Season of Alola will introduce the Hawaiian-themed region’s Pokémon across three months of tropical events.

The Season of Alola comes after Pokémon GO introduced seasonal gameplay in December 2020, and follows the Season of Mischief and the Season of Heritage. As we’ve experienced in previous seasons, the next three months will not only see monthly events and new Pokémon, but a developing storyline as well.

Which new Pokémon are coming in the Season of Alola

While there are still Pokémon missing across generations III to VI (including the long-awaited Kecleon), Gen 7 is technically the next to be introduced properly to Pokémon GO. The starter Pokémon – Rowlet, Litten and Popplio – are among those still due their Pokémon GO debut. Having said that, Alola’s regional variants are already in the game, including Alolan Meowth, Alolan Rattata and Alolan Marowak. Other popular Gen 7 Pokémon include Rockruff and its evolution Lycanroc, Bewear, Bounsweet and Mimikyu.

When are Alolan Pokémon coming to Pokémon GO?

The Season of Alola starts on March 1st, 2022. Until then, Alolan Exeggutor is appearing more frequently in the wild, and may be found in its shiny form. While there’s not much information about the new season yet, we can assume that the new Pokémon will be introduced sporadically across the following three months.
