Certain Pokemon in Pokemon Go can only evolve with the help of special items, as well as the usual candies. And the Metal Coat is required to evolve Scyther into Scizor and Onyx into Steelix. And to make it even more frustrating, you don’t get to keep your evolutionary items when used. Instead, they get consumed. Naturally, this can be really annoying. You’ve got your perfect Scyther or Onyx. You’ve got he candies, you’ve got the ideal stats… But you’re now missing the metal coat.

Metal Coat

So how do you get one? Well to get yourself a metal coat, you’ll need to count on luck (yeah, I know…). The metal coat can be obtained from spinning Pokestops and Gyms. There is a very low chance of getting these items, around 1% per spin. But usually at a very base, you’ll be guaranteed at least one evolution items per week. So it’s just a matter of hoping you get the one you wanted that week. Then again, if you’re really unlucky, you might not even get one after a week.

However, some of the more savvy Pokemon fans out there have figured out that there’s no way to ensure that the Metal Coat will drop. But with only 6 other items, there’s a greater than 50% chance that you’ll receive one once you’ve spun over 250 Pokéstops.

To increase your chances even more, try to keep your daily spin streak going. If you keep spinning, by the end of the week you’ll get an additional few items for your spin haul. Therefor hopefully giving you a better chance at getting that metal coat.

This is the same for all other evolution items too, so if you’re wondering if it’s more likely to get one over the other. Sadly, it’s not. With evolution items, it’s just a game of chance.
