Ahead of Pokémon BDSP’s release on November 19th, The Pokémon Company is yet again rewarding players of Pokémon Go with another in-game event.

Just over a day after the end of the latest Pokémon Go event, Light Overcomes Shadow, we’re straight into the next, this time celebrating the release of Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl. PoGo will celebrate the Sinnoh region once more with special bonuses, new avatar items and Pokémon wearing new cosmetic items.

Celebrating the release of Pokémon BDSP on Nintendo Switch

Pokémon BDSP

This special event will be split into two parts, with Brilliant Diamond dominating the first half, and Shining Pearl taking over for the second. This means that different Sinnoh Pokémon will appear in each part of the event, and you’ll want to participate in both to reap all the rewards!

The only thing that will change across the two different parts is which Pokémon you will encounter. The following event bonuses and rewards will all carry through the entire event.

Costumed Pokémon

Of course, Sinnoh starters Piplup, Turtwig and Chimchar are the stars of this event, and will be appearing more frequently in the wild. As such, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to catch yourself all three starters wearing Lucas and Dawn’s hats. And you might even catch a shiny variant.

The three starter Pokémon will be wearing Lucas’ red hat in the wild during the first part of the event, while you will have the chance to catch the starters wearing Dawn’s hat upon completion of certain Field Research tasks. This will swap for part 2 of the event, with the wild starters sporting Dawn’s white hat, and those wearing Lucas’ now appearing from Task encounters.

New avatar items

More new avatar items will be launched in conjunction with the event, but will continue to be available for purchase after the event ends. There are two sets of avatar items being released to celebrate Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, starting with the Sinnoh set. This features the following items, all available separately:

  • Sinnoh backpack
  • Sinnoh boots
  • Sinnoh hat
  • Sinnoh pants
  • Sinnoh shoes
  • Sinnoh skirt
  • Sinnoh top set

The second set of items available are new onesies, each one themed around one of the Sinnoh starter Pokémon. Which starter do you pick? With the tricky choice between Chimchar, Piplup and Turtwig – and each one likely to cost around 400 Pokécoins based on the cost of the Gengar onesie – The Pokémon Company may as well take all my Pokécoins now.

As with all recent events in Pokémon Go, you will also see a new set of stickers available in the shop. These new stickers can also be earned from opening gifts and spinning Pokéstops.

Event bonuses

Really excitingly, this event will introduce hatch distance bonuses once again, so you’ll be able to hatch many more Pokémon than usual. There is a different bonus for each different type of incubator, though, with a normal incubator hatching eggs in half the distance. I.e. if you place a 7km egg in a normal incubator during the event, it will hatch in 3.5km. Even better, though, the already vastly improved super incubators will hatch eggs in just a third of the normal hatch distance. This means that if you place a 7km egg in a super incubator during the event, it will hatch in just 2.33km.

While no change to 2, 5, 10 and 12km eggs has been announced for the event, the event-specific Pokémon that will be available in 7km eggs for the duration of both parts are:

  • Budew
  • Bonsly
  • Happiny
  • Mime Jr
  • Riolu

All of the above Pokémon are available in shiny form in Pokémon Go!

Collection Challenge

In order to complete this most recent Collection Challenge and earn a new badge, as well as an encounter with the Snow Land Pokémon Froslass, you will need to catch all of the required Sinnoh-region Pokémon before the event ends. If you do, you will also earn 1,000 XP and 3,000 Stardust.

When is the Pokémon Go BDSP event?

The Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl event will take place between Tuesday, November 16th, 2021 at 10am local time and Sunday, November 21st, 2021, 8pm local time.

Part 1, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond will start when the event begins and will end on Thursday, November 18th at 10am local time, when Part 2, Shining Pearl will take over. Part 2 will then end on November 21st, 2021, at 8pm local time.
