Even if you’re an arachnophobe, there’s no denying there are a few cute spider Pokémon across the now 800-plus sprites. Think Joltik, Dewpider and the little Gen II spider we’re discussing in this here article – Spinarak. OK, their evolutions may not be as endearing, but these three certainly won’t send anyone running scared. And what’s even cuter than a little spider ‘mon? A little shiny spider! So can you catch shiny Spinarak in Pokémon GO? And just what does it look like?

Being a Generation II Pokémon, Spinarak has been in Pokémon GO since 2017, less than a year after the game’s inception. Of course its shiny variant wasn’t available then, though, and was released to the GO dex in 2021, during that year’s spooky Halloween event. So that’s a yes! Shiny Spinarak is available in Pokémon GO, and is an even more adorable pastel blue color, in contrast to the Silk Spit Pokémon’s usual soft green.

The ability to evolve shiny Spinarak to shiny Ariados was released at the same time, in October 2021. A more subtle color-change, but still instantly recognizable, shiny Ariados has a purple-pink body where it’s usually red, and blue and yellow limbs.

In order to evolve Spinarak into Ariados in Pokémon GO, all you need is Candies – 50 to be precise, so it’s not cheap, but it’s also not among the most expensive. If you’re short on Spinarak Candies, be sure to use a Pinap berry whenever you encounter one in the wild.
