Fishing is one of the most enjoyable activities in Stardew Valley with players being allowed to catch all kinds of fascinating creatures. If you have been trying to get a hold of catfish in Stardew Valley but have been getting unlucky when trying to catch the evasive fish, here’s a quick guide to help you out.

Catfish Locations in Stardew Valley

If you have been struggling with finding catfish in Stardew Valley, it is likely because you are not looking for them in the right seasons. To catch catfish, you need to be head to Pelican Town’s River, the Hill-top Farm, or the Riverlands farm during Fall or Spring.

Alternatively, you can head to the Secret Woods or Witch’s Swamp in the Summer. To add to all of the confusion, catfish spawns are restricted to specific weather conditions as well. You will only be able to catch catfish when you head to the abovementioned locations on rainy days. We recommend keeping an eye out on the weather forecast to plan your fishing trips in advance. You can also use Rain Totems to force it to rain but waiting is a simpler and resource-efficient way to get catfish.

How to Find Catfish in Stardew Valley

Once the conditions are met, it is time to actually catch some catfish. One of the things the game hides from you is the fishing difficulty rating. The rating dictates how hard it is to keep fish in the sweet spot.

Luckily for you, the catfish in Stardew Valley have an above-average rating which means that it should not be too difficult to catch them. Before you fish, make sure you get your hands on the right bait and tackle for your fishing adventures. The Iridium Rod is your best bet when catching catfish but you can also use items like the Cork Bobber and Barbed Hook to make life easier.
