How to Marry Penny in Stardew Valley

Here’s how to gain points in interactions with Penny and ultimately marry her.

Penny is one of twelve marriage candidates in Stardew Valley and has a unique personality that makes her a popular choice. Penny doesn’t have the best home life in a ‘stuffy trailer she calls home but spends her time tutoring younger children in town. 

She is the only bookworm NPC and takes some skill to get close to. Penny does not have a lot of demands, but players will have to be at least halfway through the game’s first summer to gift her certain items. 

How to Marry Penny in Stardew Valley

Penny lives in a trailer on the west side of the river. She spends most of her time cleaning up the trailer, tutoring Vincent and Jas, and also reading in the town library. This schedule means that she’s often walking around town and it can be difficult to locate her. 

Penny is also good friends with Maru and can be seen spending time with her often. However, she will not be found going out for drinks in Pelican Town since she hates alcohol.

Penny has gifts that she loves, likes, and hates. Most of the gifts that Penny loves are only available at the end of summer, which can be time-consuming since the game begins in Spring. 

However, for characters willing to play the long game, Penny can still be won over by giving her gifts she likes.

Cutscenes with Penny

Here are all of the friendship events and cutscenes that you can trigger with Penny:

Two Hearts: Enter the town between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. to see Penny helping George grab his email. George will be visibly upset and you should respond with, “I was. You did a kind thing there Penny” to earn 50 friendship points.

Four Hearts: Visit Penny during a time slot she is home and help her clean her house.

Six Hearts: Visit Penny one more time when she is home and you have to help her cook. She will ask you for your opinion on it and you need to lie to get 50 friendship points.

Eight Hearts: Go to Cindersap Forest between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. When Penny talks about having kids, say “I’d love to.” and in the second dialogue, option say “Absolutely. I want a big family” OR “I guess so. It’s a natural urge.” Both options will give you 20 friendship points.

Ten Hearts: You will receive a letter in the mail from Penny. Once you do, head to the Spa between 7 p.m. and midnight to trigger a cutscene. None of the options in this conversation matter except when she expresses her feelings for you. If you accept, you will get to marry Penny.
